Pregnant wife shot in neck by husband dies

A pregnant woman shot by her husband last week died Wednesday.

Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins said 27-year-old McKaylee Higgs had been on life support and died Wednesday evening at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center after she was taken off a respirator.

Hawkins said an autopsy Thursday confirmed Higgs had been wounded by a gunshot wound to the neck that caused severe damage to her spinal cord and a buildup of fluid on the brain.

Hawkins said an autopsy Thursday confirmed Higgs had been wounded by a gunshot wound to the neck that caused severe damage to her spinal cord and a buildup of fluid on the brain.

He said Higgs was never conscious and that doctors said her injuries had caused severe and irreparable brain damage. He also confirmed that Higgs was about 10 weeks pregnant. The fetus also died.

Sheriff’s deputies have said Higgs’ husband, 25-year-old Cory Lindblom, shot his wife in the bedroom of their duplex on Nola Loop after he mistook her for an intruder.

Earlier this week, Chief of Detectives Stew Graham said he had not uncovered evidence of criminal intent and that, absent new and incriminating evidence, detectives planned to refer the case to prosecutors for further disposition.
