Western, SPU win

David Downs had 20 points and 12 assists as third-seeded Seattle Pacific dumped sixth-seeded Grand Canyon 85-59 in the first round of the NCAA Division II men’s basketball tournament Friday in Bellingham, Wash.

Riley Stockton (Ferris High) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for the Falcons (26-3), who play second-seeded Cal Poly Pomona (28-2) Monday.

Western Washington 102, Chaminade 87: Senior guard John Allen, who played his freshman year at Washington State, had 29 points and eight assists to guide the top-seeded Vikings (28-2) past the Silverswords (19-11).
