Harvest of timber planned by Rathdrum

The city of Rathdrum is planning a selective timber harvest on 575 acres of city-owned land on Rathdrum Mountain that could bring in between $300,000 and $400,000.

City Administrator Brett Boyer said the money could be used for parks or other general fund projects, the Coeur d’Alene Press reported.

The city’s management plan calls for a timber harvest every 10 years. But the city waited past that time since the last harvest in 2000 because of the downturn in the timber industry and good forest health.

City officials haven’t decided if the harvest will be this year or in 2014.

The nonprofit group Friends of Rathdrum Mountain supports the timber sale.
