Obituary: Vedvik, Marie

Age 99

VEDVIK, Marie (Age 99) Marie was born on January 17, 1914 to Saivert Kvamsholm and Anna Sophie Sither.

She passed away peacefully at her home on March 13, 2013.

Marie’s parents both died in 1927, leaving her an orphan at the age of 13.

She married Lauritz in 1934.

She made a truly amazing decision to leave Norway in 1951.

Marie and her children took the SS Stavanger Fjord to America, where they landed in Spokane and she spent the rest of her life.

Once she and her three children got to America she began working at the Crescent Department Store as a seamstress in the drapery department.

She had a real gift and eventually decided to open her own business, Marie’s Custom Decorating where she recovered furniture, lamp shades, as well as making custom draperies.

She did lamp shades until she was 99 years old.

She enjoyed hiking, the lake place on Deer Lake, rock climbing, taking care of her great-grandchildren, gardening, (she took great pride in her meticulous yard), and baking family favorites such as krumkake, lefsa, lutefisk, lamb ribs and other Norwegian heritage foods.

Marie was a member of Sons of Norway and was very proud of her heritage.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Lauritz Vedvik; son: Arnie Jan Vedvik; daughter: Lillian White; brothers: Magnus Kvamsholm, Sigvald Kvamsholm, Saron Kvamsholm, and Jakob Kvamsholm; and her sisters: Laura Kvamsholm, Mathhilde Kvamsholm, and Nelle Kvamsholm-Olson.

She is survived by her son Sven Vedvik; sisters: Berly Kvamsholm-Espeseth, Alvhild Kvamsholm-Nesje, Minda Kvamsholm-Eikemo; grandchildren: Tina Vedvik-Piper, Mike (Stephanie) Vedvik, Kathrene (Dan) Peters, Ingrid Brazeau, Ray White Jr., Eric (Beth) Forbes, Terry (Tony) Stinnett and Carol Eversole; cousins Arley Ann Olson-Hodneland, Sievert Olson (Rosalee) and Marlo Olson; 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 10:30 at Heritage Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society.
