I read with great interest the sports column written on March 14 (“Area athletes rose …”) concerning our local area athletes and all they accomplished at the state tournaments recently.
However, after reading the entire article several times, I found very little concerning the great job our wrestlers did from Region IV, specifically our side of the mountains and the Spokane area. It seemed that when Greg (Lee) wrote about wrestling, it was an afterthought. He states, “I’ll conclude with a nod to wrestling …”
Out of some 700 total words written about the athletes, a mere 7.7 percent were written about the great wrestlers we have in our local area. Not a word was written about Shadle Park’s state champion; North Central’s champion; Central Valley’s two state champions; or Mead’s two state champions – one of them is Chandler Rogers who has a chance next year to be Spokane’s first four-time state champion.
Next time Greg Lee writes a column about area athletes, he should separate it by doing one on basketball and a separate one on wrestling and gymnastics. Maybe he forgot about wrestling because the Olympic Committee in its infinite wisdom has decided to give up that great sport.
As usual, wrestling takes it in the shorts again.
