Name-calling condoned

It’s been more than a week, and I am still seething about our City Council. No, I’m not talking about Mike Kennedy’s “Legacy” McEuen Park or any of the other no-taxpayer-money schemes to benefit themselves or their benefactors that Mayor Sandi Bloem, Kennedy, Deanna Goodlander and Woody McEvers might have perpetrated against the citizens of Coeur d’Alene. I am talking about allowing a city employee to publicly insult, humiliate and intimidate a fellow city councilman, and then boast about it during a televised meeting.

I am, of course, referring to the March 5 City Council meeting at which City Attorney Mike Gridley called Councilman Steve Adams a name and then, obviously knowing that the mayor would protect him, stated “I stand by my words.”

Whether you are a fan of Adams or not, this demonstration of insubordination and complete disregard of civility cannot be tolerated. Allowing this type of action not only spoke volumes about the character of Gridley, but also the mayor, and others who allowed this to happen.

I believe that the mayor owes the entire citizenship of Coeur d’Alene an apology for not speaking up, and that Gridley should be terminated for cause.
