Leo was born on August 3, 1927 to Anthony John “Tony” and Marie Bucher in Ford, ID..
He was number six of thirteen children and spent his childhood in Coeur d’Alene.
He attended Bellgrove Grade School and Coeur d’Alene High School.
In 1945 Leo enlisted in the US Navy where he was a Chief Boatswain’s Mate (BMC) and received a Silver Whistle.
He retired from the US Navy in 1965 after 20 years of service.
While in the Navy Leo met and married Patricia “Patty” in Stockton, CA..
They had two sons, Jon and Darryl.
After his time with the Navy, Leo moved back to Coeur d’Alene and attended North Idaho College.
He graduated and got a job with the Idaho Department of Transportation as an engineer, running a survey crew, where he worked for 15 years.
Leo absolutely loved golfing, and so after his time with the DOT he got a job as the Marshall of the Coeur d’Alene Golf Course.
He also sponsored a golf team, “The Boo-Shay Bombers,” for several years.
In addition to golf, Leo enjoyed bowling and obtained numerous trophies while playing in a bowling league(s).
Leo is survived by two sons Jon Bucher of Post Falls and Darryl Bucher of El Paso, TX.
; one sister Bernie Currie of Coeur d’Alene; two brothers Kent Bucher of Post Falls and Terry Bucher of Indianapolis, IN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patty in 2007; his parents; five brothers; and four sisters.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 23 at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N 4th St. in Coeur d’Alene.
Following the service he will be laid to rest at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
