In brief: Library applicants to speak at forum

SPOKANE – The three final candidates for the position as Spokane Public Library director will participate in a public forum at the Shadle Branch Library on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The candidates are Anita Carroll, library director, MidPointe Library System, Ohio; Andrew Chanse, innovations and strategies manager, Maricopa County Library District, Arizona; and Greta Chapman, library director, Rapid City Public Libraries, South Dakota.

The candidates will each give a 10-minute presentation followed by a question-and-answer period. Comment forms will be available for those who wish to share comments with the Library Board of Trustees, which is doing the hiring.

The chosen candidate will replace current director Pat Partovi who plans to retire in early May. The Shadle Branch Library is at 2111 W. Wellesley Ave. The phone number is (509) 444-5308.

President of Sterling to address center

HILLYARD – The Northeast Community Center will celebrate 30 years of service at 6 p.m. March 28.

The event features an open house for northeast community agencies and a keynote speech by Ezra Eckhardt, president and chief operating officer of Sterling Bank and Sterling Financial Corp. United Way board seeks volunteer

SPOKANE – United Way is recruiting a homeless or formerly homeless person to serve on the Emergency Food and Shelter Program board.

The board directs resources to local programs that serve citizens’ basic needs.

The volunteer must be able to attend a minimum of one board meeting every year, review and score approximately 15 applications for funds and help determine the amount of money awarded to each program.
