Obituary: Schmidt, Herbert “Herb”

SCHMIDT, Herbert “Herb” (Age 82) March 18, 2013 was a day the Lord made and we rejoiced in it as the angels escorted Herb into the welcoming arms of his Lord and Savior.

Herb passed away at Holy Family Hospital after a brief illness.

The family is grateful for the attentive, kind staff who provided compassionate care.

Herb was born to Albert and Lydia Schmidt in Sawyer, ND.

He graduated from North Central High School and married his wife of 63 years, Patty Swoboda Schmidt, when they were 18 and 17.

Herb was a professional truck driver for over 40 years and was thankful to have a job he liked so well.

While raising four children, Herb faithfully took the family to Beacon Chapel and then Fourth Memorial, where he served in many capacities.

Herb ran Bloomsday for 25 consecutive years and enjoyed his motorcycle, fishing, bowling, playing poker, church activities and the people he did those things with.

He provided wonderful memories for family and friends through vacations, outings, and meals.

He had a twinkle in his eye as he told good, clean jokes.

Herb helped anyone in need and had a hug for all.

Among those who miss Herb are his wife; daughters, Linda, Carmen, Julie (Robert) Turner; son, Jeffrey; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Johnson, and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 pm on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Fourth Memorial, 2000 N Standard St.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, Fourth Memorial or a charity of choice.
