Magic Lantern hosts Reel Spokane festival Saturday; symposium Sunday

From Staff Reports

The Reel Spokane film festival will be Saturday at the Magic Lantern Theater.

During the festival, local filmmakers will show recently produced films.

The first slate will screen at 7 p.m. The second slate will be at 9 p.m., followed by a discussion with filmmakers and the announcement of the 2013 Judge’s Choice award.

This year’s judges are the creators of “Transolar Galactica,” a sci-fi parody Web series.

Also as part of the festival, there will be a free filmmakers symposium at 11 a.m. Former 50-Hour Slam participants will discuss the trials, tribulations, troubleshooting and successes experienced while participating in a timed filmmaking competition.

The films will screen again at 7 and 9 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets to the screenings are $7 and can be purchased at the theater, 25 W. Main Ave.
