Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler made an excellent point in his March 9 op-ed, “Keep options for all women.” With one in three women obtaining an abortion in their lives, I agree that insurance coverage of abortion is needed to ensure women still have the freedom and privacy to make their own health care decisions.
That’s why I think the Senate needs to stop playing games with women’s health and pass the Reproductive Parity Act. Health care reform is moving forward in just a matter of months, and without the RPA ensuring women still have coverage for all of their pregnancy options, they may be denied access to safe and legal abortion.
Why should a woman’s boss or insurance plan make her medical decisions for her? A woman should be able to make her own pregnancy decisions in consultation with her family and her faith.
