No. 1 St. Thomas falls

James Allen scored 19 points to help Mary Hardin-Baylor beat top-ranked St. Thomas of Minnesota 74-67 on Saturday in the NCAA Division III semifinals in Salem, Va. The Crusaders (27-5) snapped St. Thomas’ 14-game winning streak to advance to the championship game at Philips Arena in Atlanta on April 7 where they will take on Amherst. Mary Hardin-Baylor beat host Whitworth in the Sweet 16 a week ago. It will be the first trip to the title game for the Crusaders. Allen, who scored only one point and went 0 for 9 from the floor in MH-B’s quarterfinal win over Cabrini, hit 5 of 16 shots and 8 of 10 free throws. – AP
