Robert H. Reitz, 91, of Rhinelander, WI, formerly of Spokane, WA, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013, in Rhinelander.

He was born on December 12, 1921, in Fairfield, WA, son of the late Rev.

Otto and Helene (Wittrock) Reitz.

He was united in marriage, on February 3, 1955, to Doris Plaster, in Reardan, Washington.

Robert attended Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, until being drafted into the United States Army Air Corps during WWII where he became a Sergeant before the end of the war.

After the war he completed his education at Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, followed by seminary at Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.

He was ordained into the ministry at St. John Lutheran Church, American Falls, Idaho, on June 18, 1950, and served Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Reardan, Washington; St. Peter Lutheran Church in Richfield, Iowa; St. John Lutheran Church in Stapleton, Iowa; Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, Iowa; and Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in LeMars, Iowa.

Robert had a lifelong appreciation of choral and classical music, and was proud to be a member of the Choir of the West at PLU under the direction of Gunnar J. Malmin.

He also enjoyed camping, sailing, and making useful and unique gadgets out of wood.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris of Edgerton, WI; two sons, Richard (Karen) Reitz of Rhinelander, WI, and Joel (Meladee) Reitz of Portland, OR; two daughters, Carol Reitz of Fort Atkinson, WI, Kathryn (Michael) Bradley of Edgerton, WI; four grand- children: Kathryn’s children Margret and Sean, and Joel’s children Colin and Rory; four brothers, Rev.

Armin (Miriam) Reitz of Louisville, KY, Rev.

Otto (LaVerne) Reitz of Nerstrand, MN, Joseph (Patricia) Reitz of Montrose, CO and Karl (Michelle) Reitz of Oakdale, CA; and two sisters, Marie Reitz of Gladstone, OR, and Rosaline (Marvin) John of Umatilla, OR.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Elisabeth and three brothers, Gerhard, Theodore and Marcus.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Central Lutheran Church, Edgerton, with the Rev.

James M. Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Spokane, WA, at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

Friends may call on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the EHLERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, (US Hwy 51 N), Edgerton, from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may by made to the Lutheran World Relief, in Robert’s name.
