Obituary: Diedrick, Lillian

DIEDRICK, Lillian Lillian Marie Johnson Diedrick peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 27th, with her children at her side.

A native of Spokane, Lillian was born on December 8, 1926 to Sadie and Howard Johnson.

The sadness of saying good bye is comforted knowing she is now with her husband, Bill Diedrick, Sr., son, Chuck Diedrick, granddaughter, Tara Hansen; sister Bette Ressa and brother Jay Johnson who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister Grace (Dave); cousin Ray Holt; son, William Diedrick, Jr. (Wendy); daughters Andy Hansen (Dennis) and Carol (Rick); 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren respectively: Matt Diedrick (Brenda) Ryan, Braden, Bella, Lola; Justin Diedrick (Gabby) Isabella, Giavanna and Malani; Joseph Diedrick, Travis Hansen (Krestin) Riley, Chase, Cooper, Brady and Hunter; Jennifer Powell-Evan and Alivia; Roy Powell; Margit Kruz - Jon and George; Christopher Magnuson (Katie) Cameron; Molly Jack; and Debra Cota (Stephen) Katie, Abby Stephen.

Lillian attended Marycliff High School.

She earned membership into the Senior “M” Club for her excellence in sports participation.

Upon graduation, she was voted “definitely cute” and a friend to all.

She met her future husband William Diedrick, Sr., (Bill), a handsome lifeguard, while at the (then) Sinto Pool.

They were married January 26, 1946 and began their loving and dedicated life together.

First and foremost Lil will be remembered for her role as devoted wife and mother, supporting all their activities - School, Sports, Church - and there were many!

She was their boundless cheerleader, promoter and advocate.

Always, faithful, always there.

She was also an adopted mom to many students at Gonzaga University where she worked for 39 years, beginning as “house mom” at Rebmann House, and later becoming Head of Custodial Services and Volunteer Coordinator of Gonzaga Friends in Service, which she originated.

Lil was also active in the North Central Auxiliary and the St. Aloysius Auxiliary.

In later years, Lil continued to embrace her time with family and friends.

Lovingly known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren ad Grandma “Hot-seater” - they could always rely on her for gifts and stories from her heart and faith.

Often embellished with her wonderful sense of humor!

Another highlight in these years was the time she spent at St. Lukes Rehab Center.

Not only was it good for her health, but for her soul - with all the supportive therapists and friends she made there.

As a devout Catholic, Lillian’s faith and love of God was paramount in her life.

Saying daily prayers, religiously attending mass and faithfully partaking in the Novena of Grace for 50 years are a testament to her devotion.

We will miss you Mom, but we know: Goodbyes are not forever; goodbyes are not the end.

They simply mean we’ll miss you, until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to The Poor Clare’s, 4419 N. Hawthorne Street, Spokane, WA 99205 or Hospice of Spokane, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210.

Celebration of life on Saturday, April 6 between 4- 7pm at Herak Club, Gonzaga University, Private family mass and burial.
