Obituary: Garofano, Elizabeth J.

Age 89

GAROFANO, Elizabeth J.

Passed away peacefully on April 10, 2013 surrounded by family.

Betty was born in Spokane on April 21, 1924, to Irene and Earl Fuller.

She met her husband, Hank, while he was at Baxter Hospital and they married on March 1, 1944, in Spokane, and after a few years in the Boston area, they returned to Spokane where they spent the rest of their lives.

Betty worked for Great Western Fuel and was also the bookkeeper for her husband’s business.

She volunteered at St. Anne’s Children’s Home and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Aloysius.

Fishing, crocheting, playing bingo, and traveling with their many Italian friends were just some of her interests.

She always remembered birthdays or special events in her family or friend’s lives by sending cards or making phone calls, and we all looked forward to her cakes.

Her husband, Hank, and her only sister, Eleanor Parker, preceded Betty in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Herzog (Terry), one son Gary (Mike) Garofano (Marilyn); four grandchildren, Debbie Ellis, Shane Sims, Michelle Garofano and Michael Garofano (Amy) and two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Zachary Garofano, and three nieces.

A private family burial is planned later this month.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur, Spokane, WA 99210 or to Wishing Star Foundation, 139 S. Sherman, Spokane, WA 99202 or to COPD Foundation, 2937 SW 27th Ave. Suite 302, Miami, FL 33133.
