Two Eagles earn Big Sky honors

Eastern Washington Eagles Cora Kellerman and Jordan Arakawa were selected Big Sky Conference field athletes of the week on Tuesday after their performances at the Duane Hartman Invitational in Spokane.

Kellerman won the women’s javelin with a personal-best throw of 170 feet – second best all-time for an Eagle. It leads the Big Sky and is the 10th best in the country this season.

Arakawa was honored for the third time this spring for winning the men’s hammer throw with a personal-best effort of 213-8 – second on EWU’s all-time list.

• Whitworth had three softball players make the NWC second team.

Senior designated player Jamie Brunner had 48 RBIs, 54 hits and scored 38 runs.

Senior OF Heather Hesselgesser finished her career as Whitworth’s all-time RBI leader with 118 and had 14 career home runs – one off the record.

Sophomore utility Riley Fritz had 14 wins and was third in the NWC with 69 strikeouts.

Junior shortstop Caylan Haehl was honorable mention.

Track and field

CC Spokane’s Reuben Clark finished second in the decathlon with 6,443 points. Lane’s Dylan Hamming (6,520) was the winner.

CC Spokane’s Ashley Sharp was third in the heptathlon with 4,270 points. Clackamas’ Liz Venzon (4,658) won.
