Obituary: Halverson, Earl A.

Age 88

HALVERSON, Earl A. Earl A. Halverson was born February 25, 1925 in Spokane, WA and passed peacefully but unexpectedly on May 1, 2013 in Pasco, WA.

What is the “tell” of a great man?

Is it that he was married to the same woman, Alberta Halverson for nearly 66 years?

Is it that he was proud of his five children Steve, Marsha, Ivan, Gayle, and Connie or that he cherished his nine grandchildren and 16 and still growing number of great-grandchildren.

Could it be that he served his country from 1944-1946 in the Air Force?

Or maybe it’s that he and his young family pioneered the settling of the Columbia Basin Project, establishing the family farm in 1955 at Eltopia.

Possibly it’s that he helped establish and build St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Franklin County.

Or maybe it’s that he worked for thirty years for the BN Railroad, rarely missing a day of work.

It’s highly possible that it was his quick wit, brutal honesty and strong sense of “common” sense.

His greatness won’t be judged by how much he accomplished in his life, though it was significant, but by how much he was loved.

He would want to be remembered as a “good guy” but we will remember him as a GREAT man.
