Belete Assefa pulled away from newcomer Emmanuel Bett to capture Sunday’s Elite Men’s Bloomsday title. The 22-year-old Assefa outlasted a pack that still numbered 10 runners midway through the course, but shrank in the warm weather. By mile 7, it was a two-man race, but Assefa left Bett far behind with a finishing kick that got him to the finish line with a time of 34 minutes, 21 seconds.
