Lakeland sweeps 4A Region I golf

Lakeland’s boys and girls swept the Idaho 4A Region I golf tournament Monday at The Links Golf Club in Post Falls, earning state berths.

The top three individuals for boys and girls are headed to state. Lakeland’s Derek Bayley was the boys medalist with a 72, followed by teammate Preston Roth’s 77 and Sandpoint’s David Currie with a 78.

For the girls, Moscow’s Emma Kimberling was medalist with a 100, followed by Lakeland’s Hayley Rotchfoeld and Sierra Tingey, who both shot 106s.

• Kellogg’s boys and girls extended state streaks and the Bonners Ferry boys also earned a state berth at the District I-II 3A tournament at The Highlands Golf Course in Post Falls.

Kellogg’s Dylan Hendrix was the boys medalist, beating Timberlake’s Dylan Van Wingerden in a playoff after both shot 79. Van Wingerden qualified for state as an individual.

Kaceelyn Pouttu of Kellogg was the girls medalist for the fourth consecutive year after shooting a 74.

The Kellogg boys are going to state for the 11th straight time and the girls pushed their streak to 10.

• Lind-Ritzville/Sprague won the boys title at the District 7 subregional golf tournament at Meadowwood Golf Course and Wilbur-Creston captured the girls title.

Palmer Guhlke of Davenport was the boys medalist with a 76, and Colfax’s Paige Mackleit and Northwest Christian’s Sadie Garner led the way for the girls with 88s.

Softball

Wilbur-Creston beat Northport 10-5 in a Northeast 1B play-in game at Hunters.

Meagan Kane was 2 for 4 with two RBIs for W-C, which will be the sixth seed at district and play No. 3 seed St. Michael’s at Kettle Falls on Saturday at noon.
