Not a priority

Recently, the topic of imposing all-day kindergarten has been brought up in the media. Those for it argue that children enjoy it and they get to partake in things such as library and music class.

In no way do I think that spending money toward education is a waste, but when our nation is in this current state, we don’t have $90 million to go toward little Sally getting to play on the swing set with Joe.

Kindergarten does offer that crucial base needed for success, but not to the point where it is turning into a day care center. Children have six years for the extra “luxuries” of school like lunch and recess. Our tax dollars can be funneled into more feasible programs. For example, the schools could look into rehiring the librarians that were laid off, providing job opportunities as well as a well-trained professional working with the kids.

When I was 6 years old, I went to kindergarten for only half of the day, but let me tell you, I know my ABCs just fine.
