79 Years of Life

A longtime rancher of Elk, Washington, formerly of Spokane, passed away on April 26, 2013, at the Veterans Hospital in Seattle, WA.

John is the dear father and father-in-law of Robert and Valerie Schmidt of Elk, Janet and Dan Dodson of Tum Tum, WA, and Kathy and Bob Lenz of Milan-Chattaroy, WA.

His sister and brother are Ida (Jim) Allen of Spokane and Emanuel (Lorraine) Schmidt of Elk.

He enjoyed three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Born in 1933 at Burgiaitschen, Germany, John came to the United States as a teenager and resided in Spokane where he attended Spokane Community College learning welding and masonry.

While in Spokane, John learned his parents were taken to Siberia during WWII, and he was able to bring them to Spokane where they resided for the rest of their lives.

John owned a dairy ranch in Elk and was a brick mason for many years.

His wife, Patricia, passed away in 1998.

He served with the United States Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

A Funeral Service honoring Mr. Schmidt will be in Deer Park on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 2:30 P.M. at the Woodland Cemetery with Pastor Duane Anderson officiating.

Flag presentation and military honors will be by the United States Army/ Washington Army Nation Guard Honor Guard of Spokane, WA.
