Education Notebook: Comedy on G-Prep stage

From left, John Akers, Ashleigh Floth, Canyon O’Neil, Patrick White, Sarah McMaster and James Peters are seen in Gonzaga Prep’s spring production of “You Can’t Take It With You.”

The drama students at Gonzaga Prep will perform “You Can’t Take it With You,” beginning Friday in Prep’s Kubiak Theatre at 7 p.m.

Performances will continue Saturday and May 17 and May 18 at 7 p.m.

The show is a heart-warming comedy about the Sycamore family, who, at first seem a little crazy. On the other side of the story is the unhappy Kirby family.

Tony Kirby, played by Patrick White, falls in love with Alice Sycamore, played by Sophia Nickoloff. Tony’s parents are invited to dinner at the Sycamore house on the wrong night. When Mr. Kirby, played by Chance O’Neil, and Mrs. Kirby, played by Erin Thomas, are served cheap food, it’s declared that a marriage between Alice and Tony is out of the question.

The Sycamores don’t understand Alice’s love for Tony; but Tony understands the quirkiness in the Sycamore household is centered around love and caring, and it’s his family that’s crazy. In the end, craziness wins.

The rest of the cast is Sarah McMaster as Penelope; Ashleigh Floth as Essie; Sareyna Kramer as Rheba; James Peters as Paul; Chris Beamis as Mr. De Pinna; Canyon O’Neil as Ed; Conrad Kurrle as Donald; John Akers as Martin (Grandpa);  Isaiah Daniels as Henderson; David Yake as Boris Kolenkhov; Ximena Hernandez as Gay; Bella Schwietert as Olga; Kylle Collins, Isaiah Daniels and Jackson Bulger as the J-Men.
