Obituary: Blumel, Beverly Mae

Age 83

BLUMEL, Beverly Mae With her family at her side, Beverly died peacefully on May 7, 2013.

Born in Appleton, Minnesota on May 12, 1930, she came to Spokane as a teenager and graduated from North Central High School.

Shortly after graduation she married Joseph A. Blumel, Jr. Over the years they raised three children and partnered several successful business pursuits.

One of Bev’s most enjoyable business experiences was undertaking the ownership and management of Spokane’s first Denny’s Restaurant on Second Avenue and, applying her unique style for knowing the right people to hire, she established a warm and friendly family atmosphere that made Denny’s one of Spokane’s favorite dining spots for years.

Bev was very creative and a talented artist.

She was a member of the local art community for many years and, in addition to having many of her paintings displayed, she loved working on art projects with her grandchildren and often volunteered at their schools to work with the children on art projects.

Sadly, Bev passed a few days before her 83rd birthday and Mother’s Day but she had a wonderful life and will be remembered by family and friends for her smile, her class and her charm.

She is survived by her three children, Joe (JoAnne), Diane and Deborah, four grandchildren, Ryan, Doug (Michelle), Andrew (Emma) and Katie (Nicholas), four great-grandchildren, Emma, Lauren, Claire and Mason, and her brother, Harold Victor “Butch” (Jayne).

Special thanks to Royal Park Care Center, Royal Plaza Retirement Center and Horizon Hospice.

Service will be held in the Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME 4305 N DIVISION SPOKANE, WA entrusted with arrangements.
