Tigers, Scheiwiller eliminate Bullpups

Sage Scheiwiller pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight Wednesday as Lewis and Clark eliminated Gonzaga Prep 3-0 at the District 8 4A softball tournament at Whitworth University.

Hanna Hendrickson had a two-run single during LC’s three-run fifth. Salina Rima of G-Prep (6-15) struck out 14.

LC will play at 5 p.m. Friday at Whitworth against today’s loser between Central Valley and Mead for the second and final berth to the regional tournament.

• Brittney Gatly pitched a six-inning four-hitter and Berkley Fisher went 4 for 5 with three runs as Shadle Park (10-11) cruised past Mt. Spokane 15-2 in a District 8 3A tournament opener at Whitworth.

Shadle will play at 3 p.m. Friday at Whitworth against today’s loser between University and North Central for the second and third berths to regional. Mt. Spokane will advance to regional as the No. 4 seed and open Tuesday at Mid-Columbia Conference No. 1 Kamiakin.

Baseball

Hunter Wells struck out 10 and scored twice as top-seeded West Valley (19-1) defeated visiting Pullman 2-0 at the District 7 2A tournament.

Taylor Downey and Austin Lee had RBIs for the Eagles, who will host the next round of the tournament on Saturday. Pullman (6-15) will play Colville (4-17) in a loser-out game at 10 a.m. WV will meet Clarkston (15-4) at 1 p.m. for a berth to regionals. The first-game winner and second-game loser will play at 4 for the final regional berth.

At Clarkston, Bailey Sinner and DePaul Blunt combined on a four-hitter as the host Bantams edged Colville 3-2 despite being held to one hit.

• James Prockish (4-1) and two relievers combined to strike out 12 in a five-inning two-hitter as host Lakeland eliminated Sandpoint 16-0 at the Idaho 4A Region I tournament in Rathdrum.

Lakeland led 10-0 after one inning. The Hawks will play at Moscow at noon Saturday. Lakeland must defeat Moscow twice to advance to state.

Tennis

Lewis and Clark’s Tyler Wilson upset second-seeded Trevor Fennessy of Ferris 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in boys singles semifinals at the District 8 4A tournament at Gonzaga Prep.

Wilson will meet top-seeded Alex Marcinkowski of G-Prep in today’s finals at G-Prep. Marcinkowski swept past fourth-seeded Daniel Sheppard of G-Prep 6-0, 6-1 in the other semifinal.

Central Valley’s Abby Pedersen upset second-seeded Kyra Harames of CV 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in girls singles. Pedersen will meet top-seeded Micca Motzer of Mead in today’s final at G-Prep. Motzer beat Mackenzie Draper of Mead 6-4, 6-1.

LC swept the boys doubles semifinals. Top-seeded Luke Brittan and Jordan Strandness will meet third-seeded Jacob Larson and Kenny Woodhead in today’s final. In girls doubles, top-seeded Dana Norris and Heather Birge of Mead will meet second-seeded Kayley Lenhart and Jill Louthian of Ferris in the final.

• Mt. Spokane’s Austin Carlen and Shadle Park’s Taylor Redman won boys singles semifinal matches at the District 8 3A tournament at Shadle.

Carlen topped University’s Chris Osborn 6-3, 6-4 while Redman stopped U-Hi’s Josh Ramsey 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Carlen and Redman will play for the district title at 4 p.m. today at Shadle.

U-Hi’s Mercedee Smith and Lauren Stubbers will meet in today’s 3A final after winning semifinal matches.

Golf

Joe Baldeck fired a 70 at the Great Northern League tournament at Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman to lead Clarkston to the day’s low score (408) and the season league title.

The top half of the field advances to MeadowWood on Monday.

Pullman’s Nicole Welter shot a 92 for a one-stroke win over East Valley’s Erin Wallman. Deer Park (545) nipped Pullman by two strokes.

• Nate Yockey shot a 1-over-par 71 to lead Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) to the team title at the District 7 1A tournament at Sun Dance Golf Course.

Clint Long finished two shots back to guide Chewelah to a second place finish.

Newport’s Courtney Wiese (93) won the girls title by one shot over Sam Viehouser of Lakeside, the team champ.

The top 19 boys and 11 girls advance to Tuesday’s bi-district in Chewelah.
