Spotlight: Chang to perform hometown recital

New York City pianist Hsia-Jung Chang will perform a hometown recital on June 1 at the Holy Names Music Center.

In her “Piano in Nature” recital, Chang will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata,” Claude Debussy’s piano suite “Estampes,” and music by Frederic Chopin, Franz Liszt, Christian Sinding, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Pyotr Tchaikovsky. 

Chang has appeared as a soloist with the Spokane Symphony and has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Guild Outreach. With her mother, Ho Lan, a noted Taiwanese yodeler, and sister His-Ling Chang, a Grammy-nominated recording engineer, they formed their own record label, Mandala Studio, in 2002.

Jerry Hardin is coming to town.

Who’s Jerry Hardin? If you don’t remember the name, you’ll likely remember the face. Hardin is a longtime Hollywood character actor who is coming to Interplayers Theatre June 6-9 with the one-man show “Mark Twain: On Man and His World.”

Hardin actually played Samuel Clemens in a two-episode arc of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” He was Deep Throat in “The X-Files” and had recurring roles in “Melrose Place,” “L.A. Law” and “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.” His movie credits include “The Firm,” “Hidalgo,” “Big Trouble in Little China,” “Cujo” and “Ghosts of Mississippi.”

Hardin will do four Twain shows in Spokane, at 7:30 p.m. June 6, 7 and 8, with a 2 p.m. matinee on June 9. Tickets are $12 to $28 and available through TicketsWest, (800) 325-SEAT or www.ticketswest.com.>
