Fire destroys two historic buildings in Mullan, Idaho

A fire destroyed two historic buildings, a well-known bar and a union hall in Mullan, Idaho early this morning. Shoshone County Fire District 1 Chief Jim Walcker said someone called 911 just before 3 a.m. to report the blaze, and by the time crews arrived, the two buildings were already fully engulfed in flames. He said he saw the glow in the sky from miles away as he drove to the scene. The Silver Dollar Bar, at 210 Earle Street, and a conjoining miner’s union hall were completely destroyed. Walcker said the structures were wooden and about 100 years old. No one was injured in the fire and the cause is still under investigation. Crews from the all-volunteer Mullan Fire Department were still monitoring hot spots by 8 a.m. Walcker said an investigation from the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s office is likely.
