Kellogg’s Pouttu wins going away

Kellogg senior Kaceelyn Pouttu shot a final-round 71 – winning her fourth-straight individual title by 28 shots – and the Wildcat girls eased to the team championship at the 3A state tournament at Highlands Golf Club Tuesday in Post Falls.

Weiser, which beat Kellogg by four shots last year, finished in second place, 65 shots behind Kellogg.

Pouttu shot a 77 during the opening round on Monday. She won the last three state titles by a combined 79 shots.

Kellogg’s Jessie Gibbons improved on her opening-round 88 with an 81 in the second round. She finished third overall at 169. Mercades de Young shot a 105 in the second round and finished in seventh at 189.

The Kellogg boys finished in sixth place.

The Wildcats’ Jesse Lambert shot an 80 in the second round for a two-round total of 156 – good enough for eighth place.

Lewiston’s Amy Hasenoehrl shot a 65 and claimed her second-straight individual state title with a scorecard playoff at Lewiston Country Club in Lewiston.

The Bengals finished second in the team standings behind Rocky Mountain, which had three individuals inside the top 10. Lake City was eighth and Post Falls was ninth.

The Coeur d’Alene boys finished in second place, 25 shots behind Eagle. The Vikings were led by John Duffin’s two-round total of 146. He finished in sixth place.

Coeur d’Alene’s Michael Porter finished in ninth place, while teammate Chase Lincoln was 10th.

Defending boys state champion Derek Bayley, of Lakeland, shot a 72 for a two-round total of 154 – good enough for 10th place – at University of Idaho Golf Course in Moscow, Idaho.

The Hawks finished in sixth out of eight teams.

The Lakeland girls came in last place.

2A

Ryan McNulty shot an 80 in the final round for a two-round total of 169 and St. Maries finished in third place at Circling Raven Golf Club in Worley, Idaho.

McNulty finished eighth. The Lumberjacks’ Gavin McCarter shot a second-round 86 and finished at 173.

The St. Maries girls finished sixth out of seven teams.
