We asked readers on Facebook and Twitter last week which Capt. James T. Kirk they preferred, William Shatner from the original TV series “Star Trek,” or Chris Pine from the J.J. Abrams movie reboot. Here are a few responses.

Larry Medin @larrymfive There wouldn’t be a discussion if not for @WilliamShatner

Spokane Eats @SpokaneEats @WilliamShatner ALWAYS

Michael Sabota Because …………You can’t …………… Just………..do………….. Better than the original.

Stanley Peterson Well, how can you beat the original? I mean the new one is great but the original sets the bar. Ask this question in another 30 years and we’ll see who owned it then – probably be the same answer for me.

Pete Dunlop The new kid is pretty good. But this is an unfair question. William Shatner made seemingly hundreds of episodes and a bunch of movies. He defined the role, like him or not. The new guy has some catching up to do.

Monte Bisson I’m going with Shatner. If for no other reason than, if it hadn’t been for him there may never have been a Star Trek at all

Dan Hansen Harrison Ford.

Beth Sims Chris Pine all the way, Shatner is too camp and Pine does action well.
