Obituary: Hansen, Phyllis (Hunter)

Age 84

HANSEN, Phyllis (Hunter) (Age 84) Died on Tuesday, May 7th 2013 in Spokane following a long illness.

Phyllis was the first child born to Joseph Morrell Hunter and Alverda Heslington Hunter on November 15, 1928, in Shelley, Idaho.

She graduated from Springville High School in 1946 and went on to receive her BA in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University.

Phyllis taught elementary school in Tooele, Utah and Portland, Oregon.

In June of 1951 she married John M. Hansen and settled in Portland, Oregon and then moved to Spokane, WA in 1963 where she resided until her death.

Phyllis worked for the Spokane Eye Clinic 25+ years and retired in 1997.

She loved to play bridge, garden and read.

Phyllis was an active member of the LDS church and served as Ward Relief Society President.

She felt great joy in her service to others in various church callings.

Phyllis fulfilled her dream to travel to Europe and throughout parts the United States.

Phyllis is survived by three of her four children, Jacquelyne Barker, Barbara Marks and Bret Hansen.

She lost her fourth child, Michael Hansen, in 2006.

Her brother, Boyd Hunter and sister Ilene Winn, who reside in Utah, also survive her.

Her extended family includes nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was well loved and will be missed by her family and friends and fondly remembered and her willingness to serve others, her spunky personality as well as her sharp-witted humor until the end.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 24th at 11 am at the Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park, located at 5200 W. Wellesley Ave. Burial will be in the Fairmount Memorial Park.
