Justin Bieber will face a bill for thousands of dollars for his pet monkey’s two-month stay at an animal shelter since it was seized by German customs, officials said Friday as a deadline expired for him to reclaim the animal.
A spokesman for Munich’s customs office said the teenage singer had until midnight Friday to contact them, otherwise capuchin monkey Mally will be transferred to a permanent home at a zoo or animal park elsewhere in Germany.
“If no further documents arrive then the seizure order comes into effect and the animal becomes the property of the German state,” customs spokesman Thomas Meister said.
Mally was seized by German customs March 28 when Bieber failed to produce required vaccination and import papers after landing in Munich while on tour.
Travis sues to keep arrest tape private
Country music star Randy Travis has filed a lawsuit to prevent the release of patrol car video of his 2012 drunken-driving arrest in North Texas.
The Austin American-Statesman reported Thursday that the lawsuit names the Texas Department of Public Safety and the attorney general’s office.
A judge originally granted a defense request to block the video from being released. But media groups requested the video from DPS, and the attorney general’s office ruled this month that the judge didn’t have discretion to bar the video’s release.
Prosecutors have said the singer was found naked by a road after crashing his Pontiac Trans Am. He pleaded guilty in January to driving while intoxicated and was sentenced to two years’ probation.
Reggae singer hit with bottle on stage
Officials say the leader of the reggae band Toots and the Maytals was injured when a 19-year-old man threw a bottle and hit the singer during a concert in Richmond.
Police said Sunday the man has been charged with aggravated assault. Authorities have not identified him.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Frederick “Toots” Hibbert was treated at a hospital for a cut to his head and released.
Hibbert was hit by a glass bottle Saturday night as the band was performing at the Dominion Riverrock outdoor sports and music festival. The band stopped playing after he was hit.
Festival organizers say Hibbert was in good spirits despite the traumatic event and regretted that the concert had to be stopped early.
