Mayes third Cougar arrested in two weeks

The count of Washington State football players arrested in the last two weeks is now at three after junior linebacker Logan Mayes was arrested early Thursday evening on suspicion of hit and run, according to the Pullman Police logs.

A WSU spokesman confirmed that coaches are aware of the incident, which will be handled internally per coach Mike Leach’s policy. A PPD employee who answered the phone Sunday morning said nobody on duty was able to answer media inquiries, meaning details of Mayes’ arrest are still unclear.

Whitman County District Court records show that a criminal traffic case was filed on Friday with Mayes listed as the defendant. He is scheduled to appear in court on the morning of June 4, according to the court’s website.

The PPD log shows Mayes’ arrest occurred about 6:30 p.m. Thursday – Mayes’ 20th birthday –on Northeast Westwood Drive in Pullman.

Since spring practice ended in late April, three Cougar players have allegedly run afoul of the law in Pullman. Defensive tackle Toni Pole was cited May 11 for allegedly making false statements to police, and sophomore running back Teondray Caldwell was arrested May 7 on suspicion of assault and burglary, though charges have yet to be filed.
