UW softball advances on no-hitter

Bryana Walker threw her second career no-hitter as Washington beat Hawaii 8-0 in five innings Sunday in Seattle, earning the Huskies a Super Regional berth in the NCAA softball tournament.

Washington (41-15) went 3-0 to win the Seattle Regional and will head to the Super Regionals for the eighth straight season. The Huskies, the No. 11 seed in the tournament, will play at No. 6 seed Missouri next weekend. Dates and times have not yet been determined.

Walker (17-7) struck out 12 batters, including eight in a row at one point, and walked two.

The Washington offense collected 12 hits, with Kaitlin Inglesby and Jennie McNeill having three each. Inglesby hit a two-run home run and Whitney Jones added a three-run blast in the Huskies’ five-run third inning.

• Community Colleges of Spokane lost to Douglas 17-7, ending the Sasquatch’s run at the NWAACC softball championship in Portland.

The game, the last of the season for CCS, was completed Sunday after a rain delay Saturday.

Shayd Urhausen went 3 for 3 with an RBI for CCS and Tasji Urhausen drove in two runs.

Sasquatch starter Nicole Lane allowed four runs – two earned – on four hits over two innings. She struck out two and walked two. Lindsey Walchli pitched the final five innings, allowing 13 runs – 11 earned – on 15 hits. She struck out six and walked one.

Baseball

Zach Wright pitched seven shutout innings and Washington scored all of its runs over the first three innings in a 5-2 Pac-12 victory over Washington State in Pasco, completing a three-game sweep.

Wright (4-5) allowed six hits and no walks while striking out four as the Huskies improved to 22-31, 13-14 Pac-12. Tyler Kane earned his fifth save.

Cougars (21-30, 8-19 Pac-12) starter Tanner Chleborad saw his record fall to 3-9. He allowed five runs – four earned – on six hits over 2 2/3 innings. Sean Harnett followed with 5 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

The Cougars play Portland in Pasco today at noon, while the Huskies host Arizona State in a weekend series that begins Friday.

Rowing

The Washington men defended their conference title, while the UW women finished third and the Washington State women sixth at the Pac-12 Rowing Championships on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.

The Huskies men won the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Freshman/Novice 8 races and came in second in the Varsity 4.

The Huskies women won the Novice 8, finished second in the Varsity 8 and came in third in the Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4. The Cougars finished third in the Novice 8, fourth in the Varsity 4 and sixth in the Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8.

Cal defended its title in the women’s competition.
