Obituary: Morigeau, Paul, Jr.
He passed peacefully at home May 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
He joined the USMC in January 1953 and spent his time as a special hand-picked marine, stationed aboard the USS Curtiss AV-4, providing security for H-Bomb testing in Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands in 1954.
He was in Operation Castle which included three of the largest H-Bombs detonated.
When he was released from active duty, he enrolled at Eastern Washington University where he graduated as one of the top ten seniors and was elected class president in 1959.
After graduating college, his love of the corps, called him back.
He was sent to Quantico, VA for officer training.
Paul finished second in his class and was picked by his unit as the one they would be proud to follow into combat.
He served his country with honor and pride in Vietnam, the Panama Canal, Cuban Crisis, and Operation Desert Shield/Storm with the Nevada Air National Guard 152nd.
His military career was 18 years with the USMC and 11 years with the Nevada Air National guard.
He retired from the military as a Major USMC.
He also worked with the Bureau of Indian Affairs as Administrative Manager and retired at age 60.
He was an avid golfer and marshaled at Empire Ranch Golf Course for 10 years.
He was one of the founding fathers of the Senior Mens Club at Empire Ranch.
He loved to travel and golf with his wife of 32 years, Sandra, and enjoyed the many activities and sporting events of his grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his wife, Sandra; three daughters, Kimberly and Lisa Morigeau, Cynthia (Ray) Peternell; and son, Paul Scott; sisters, Lisa (Jim) Siedenburg of Spokane, WA, Joan (Ken) Veal of Douglas GA, Maxine (Les) Julian of Entiat, WA.
Brother, Mike (Janice) of Spokane, WA; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley, 1281 N. Roop St., Carson City, NV at 11am Friday, May 24, 2013.
Graveside Services will follow at Lone Mountain Cemetery, Carson City, NV.
A reception honoring Paul will be held at Gold Dust West after the service.
