Bezdicek one shot behind leader
Mt. Spokane’s Sierra Bezdicek is one shot off the lead after Tuesday’s first round of the State 3A tournament at Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland.
Bezdicek opened with a 71 – one stroke behind Columbia River’s Chloe Bartek.
In the boys 3A tourney at Tri-Mountain in Ridgefield, Mt. Spokane’s Zach Spencer is tied for 10th five shots off the pace after opening with a 75.
In the boys 4A tourney at Camas Meadows in Camas, Ferris’ Tanner Comes is tied for 12th to lead the locals. His first-round 75 leaves him five shots behind the leader. Teammate Eric Ansett is tied for 21st after shooting 77.
In girls 4A at Club Green Meadows, Sierra Kersten of Lewis and Clark is tied for fourth after opening with a 78 – five shots off the pace. Mead’s Lydia Kim is in 11th place with an 81.
In the boys 2A tournament at Chambers Bay in Tacoma, Clarkston Joe Baldeck is all alone in third place after a first-round 73. He is three strokes behind the leader.
In the girls 2A event at The Classic in Spanaway, Pullman’s Becky Birchett leads the locals with an opening-round 92 that leaves her in a four-way tie for 13th.
In the boys 1A tourney at Lake Spanaway, Chewelah’s Clint Long and Lakeside’s Nate Yockey are eight shots off the pace and tied for 15th place after first-round 79s.
In girls 1A play also at Lake Spanaway, no local golfers are in the top 20.
In the boys 1B/2B tournament at Oakbrook in Lakewood, Hunter Weitze of Colfax is in a three-way tie for sixth place after a first-round 84 – but 12 shots behind runaway leader Ryan Baumgart of DeSales.
In girls 1B/2B play at Oakbrook, St. John-Endicott’s Michal Schuster is the first-round leader by five strokes after opening with an 86. Wilbur-Creston’s Kim Conway is in fifth place after carding a 94.
