Ideal politician is humble

The ideal politician comes to office to be servant. Remaining steadfast is a rarity. Some seem to have arrived with such monumental egos that being servant becomes second to other considerations, so far down the “to do” list as to fade from sight altogether.

I, me, my, mine, often appear in the uttering’s coming from those who don’t understand the meaning of “servant.” A graphic example occurred in the recent appearance of the president and the prime minister of Turkey. How many were offended, as I was, to hear the president boldly state that “I still have troops in harm’s way?”

In my poor way, I thought they were our troops. How mundane I am to be offended by such a small thing.
