Obituary: Sweetland, Lorraine H.

Age 78

SWEETLAND, Lorraine H. (Age 78) Lorraine was born to James A. Piper and Helen M. Piper (Logan) in Spokane and grew up in Hillyard, WA.

She was always proud to say she was from Hillyard.

That is where she met her husband of 63 years, Richard Sweetland.

Mom said she was sitting with friends inside a soda shop when this cute boy walked by and she winked at him.

They were married on August 30, 1950 and raised five children: Eddy, Diane, Carol, Becky, Daniel.

Mom was a GREAT cook while we were growing up in the big house on Providence making the best chicken n noodles and doughnuts in town.

She would stay up all night just to make holiday meals.

Those were the best meals you ever ate.

Mom had a great sense of humor that was there right up to her last days.

She could make anyone laugh.

She was a big animal lover and we were never without a pet or three growing up.

Lorraine is survived by her husband Richard Sweetland.

Daughters Diane Henneman, Carol Bross, Becky Olson and son Daniel Sweetland.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

And best friend Patricia McBride who visited Mom often during her illness.

Those visits were very special to Mom.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her son Eddy Sweetland, son-in-law Rick Olson, sister Peggy VanSlate, nephew Bill and niece Darcy.

Graveside Memorial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, 211 N. Government Way, May 30, at 2:30
