Obituary: Edmonds, Quincy Zane
Age 67
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lonnie Edmonds.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Frances Buckner Edmonds, son Eric (Jennifer) Edmonds, daughter Jennifer (Arron) Rickert; five grandchildren; Benjamin, Elisabeth, and Nathan Edmonds; Isaac and Jonathan Rickert; sisters Nelzene Wofford, Hazel “Apple” (Marvin) Askew, DeAnn (David) Lancaster, Jodell (Steve) McCoy, Mart (Sam) Wood, and a brother Glenn (Carol) Edmonds.
Quincy Zane was raised on a farm in Alabama and graduated from Pisgah High School, Alabama in 1963.
He graduated from Trevecca Nazarene College (TNC) in 1968 with a degree in Biology.
As a student, Quincy Zane supported himself by working full time at a custom cabinet shop.
He would use these skills and his love for working with wood the rest of his life to benefit his family and friends.
While at TNC, he met and married Mary Buckner Edmonds in 1967.
Quincy Zane and Mary were teachers together at the same school close to his family home in Alabama until 1969 when he joined the Air Force.
During their first assignment in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Quincy Zane and Mary had two children Eric (1972) and Jennifer (1976).
Quincy Zane served as an officer in the United States Air Force for twenty years.
As an USAF pilot, he flew the C-131 at Kirkland AFB, the C-12 at Ramstein AFB, Germany and the KC-135 Tanker at Griffiss AFB, New York and Fairchild AFB, WA.
He loved to fly airplanes and frequently dreamed as if he were a bird flying through the air.
At Fairchild, Quincy Zane was the Officer in Charge of the Bariatric Chamber.
He taught Physiology and was a professor for Embry Riddle University where he had previously received his Master’s Degree.
He would eventually become the Director of Embry Riddle University at Fairchild AFB.
His daughter, Jennifer was his favorite student.After retiring from the USAF in 1990, Quincy Zane worked as a pilot for Air Transport International until his retirement at age 60.
This position allowed him to travel the world including Europe, the Middle East, Central America, Australia, and central Asia.
One of his most interesting missions was to co-pilot an AmeriCares food and medical flight into North Korea in 1997.
This mission was the first direct civilian flight from the U.S. to North Korea since the Korean War.
His primary work after retiring as a pilot was caring for his family, friends and neighbors.
He built homes for each of his children’s families and was a driving force on many projects small and large for friends far and near.
As each of his grandchildren were born, Quincy Zane spent hours and hours reading, playing, laughing, giving hugs and praying with them.
Throughout his life, Quincy Zane actively lived out his Christian faith.
He has been a member of the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene for 25 years including many years serving on their Church Board.
Quincy Zane was a committed member and past President of the Spokane Valley Kiwanis Club, a Board Member of Hearth Homes in Spokane Valley, volunteer for the Spokane Valley Mothers of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS) and a contributor to many other ministry organizations.
He loved Jesus and lived each day seeking, the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
During the last years of his life, he often woke early in the morning to pray and commune with God.
He saw himself as a watchman appointed by God to pray for his family, church and neighbors.
Quincy Zane will be greatly missed.
A Memorial service will be held at Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, May 29th at 3:00 pm.
