Obituary: Nicoles, Naomi J.
NICOLES, Naomi J. Naomi J. Nicoles peacefully passed away at the age of 93 early morning on May 19, 2013 in Spokane. She was born near Potlatch, Idaho on June 19, 1919 to Edward and Cora Vogel and lived there until the age of five when the family left the farm and moved to Everett, WA. Later they moved to Moscow, Idaho where she finished high school and received her degree in Bacteriology at the University of Idaho. After interning at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, she continued to work at the hospital as a medical technologist. Her first husband, Donald Dirstine died after eighteen months of marriage. Two years later she married William M. Nicoles, a marriage that lasted fifty four years until his death in 2002. In 1952, the Nicoles started the Nicoles Funeral Home in Ephrata, WA and continued the business until retirement in 1976. In addition, Naomi was the head medical technologist at the Ephrata Hospital for many years. They spent the year after retirement touring the United States in their motor home before settling in Panorama City at Lacey, WA. After Bill’s death, Naomi moved to Spokane to be near her neice Donita Walker (Doni), nephew David Orcutt and their families. She will be interred at Fairmount Memorial Cemetery in Spokane with a private family gathering. A memorial service will be held at Rockwood at Hawthorne, 2:30 PM May 29. The family is most grateful to the staff at Rockwood at Hawthorne for their loving care of Naomi. Nicoles Funeral Home of Ephrata is in charge of arrangements.
