Cougs end season with loss to OSU

Ryan Barnes stroked a run-scoring single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Oregon State to a 7-6 victory over the Washington State Cougars (23-32, 9-21) on Sunday in Corvallis, Ore., and help the third-ranked Beavers (45-10, 24-6) clinch the Pacific-12 Conference title on the final day of the regular season.

Collin Slaybaugh went 4 for 5 and drove in two runs for the Cougars, who fell behind 4-0 in the second inning before rallying to take a 6-4 lead after six innings.

Dylan Davis and Danny Hayes hit back-to-back home runs off WSU reliever Jason Monda to knot the score at 6 in the eighth inning.

• Jayce Ray went 4 for 4 with three RBIs to power the Washington Huskies (24-32, 15-15) to a 7-2 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils (35-20-1, 16-14) in a Pac-12 regular-season ending game in Seattle.

Reliever Tyler Kane (2-2) picked up the win, allowing one run in 2 2/3 innings.

D-I tournament

For the third straight year, five Atlantic Coast Conference schools will open the NCAA Division I baseball tournament at home.

Florida State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia and Virginia Tech are among the 16 schools that were named hosts for regionals Sunday. The tournament begins Friday.

Four Southeastern Conference schools will be hosts: LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Pac-12 schools playing at home will be Oregon, Oregon State and UCLA.

Other host teams are Indiana, Cal State Fullerton, Louisville and Kansas State. The rest of the 64-team field will be announced today.
