Guns needed for defense

I completely agree with the May 7 letter from Aaron Leifer. I personally believe that these gun control laws will end up doing more harm than good. Imagine this: You hear somebody walking around your house in the middle of the night. What would you feel safer going downstairs with, a gun or a broomstick? I know that I would sure feel safer if I went down with a gun.

If our guns get taken away, that is basically the government telling criminals to come rob our houses. What’s to stop them? I’m sure they’ll somehow find way to get hold of guns, and when they rob our houses, we’ll be defenseless. The police aren’t always going to be able to come and save you in time, especially if you live in remote areas. Sometimes, you’ll just have to defend yourself, and your kitchen knife isn’t going to be able to match up to a guy standing 10 feet away from you holding a gun.

While I understand why people would want guns taken away, I think the number of gun-related crimes would go up because criminals would somehow acquire them and nobody would be able to stop them.
