Inmate hits corrections officers, prison says

Associated Press

SHELTON, Wash. – An inmate serving time for assaulting a law enforcement officer punched corrections officers Wednesday in the dining hall of the Washington Corrections Center, a state Corrections Department spokeswoman said.

The inmate hit a corrections officer and a sergeant as the offender was leaving the Shelton prison’s dining area shortly before noon, spokeswoman Debra Dobson said. Three other prison staffers suffered minor injuries when they responded. One staff member was treated at a hospital for minor injuries, Dobson said.

The inmate, Adam Beaubien, 33, was taken to the prison’s highest security unit, the spokeswoman said. He had been sentenced for third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and was scheduled to complete his prison term in February 2016.

On May 22, a corrections officer at the state prison at Monroe was treated at a hospital after an inmate reportedly punched him in the face during a religious service. Monroe Correctional Complex spokeswoman Susan Biller said 59-year-old inmate Allen Pavese was placed in segregation after that incident.
