Blinn, Wimbush lead GU to win

Savannah Blinn led all players with 16 kills and Imani Wimbush added a career-high 11 blocks as the Gonzaga volleyball team swept Santa Clara in a West Coast Conference match in Spokane on Thursday. Scores were 25-15, 25-20, 25-21.

The win gave GU (9-12, 5-7) the season sweep over the Broncos (7-13, 2-9) and snapped the Bulldogs’ four-match losing streak.

• Kayla Reno had 15 kills and Kelsey Schile and Brooke Bray added 11 apiece as Montana (11-11, 8-5) topped Eastern Washington in a Big Sky Conference match in Missoula. Scores were 26-24, 16-25, 25-20, 25-23. Kelsey Julian had 16 kills and 10 digs to lead the Eagles (7-17, 4-9).

• Preslie Alexander tallied a match-high 18 kills and New Mexico State (14-10, 9-2) beat Idaho (13-10, 6-5) in a Western Athletic Conference match in Moscow, Idaho.

Women’s soccer

Lo’eau LaBonta’s 44th-minute goal was the difference as No. 7 Stanford (13-3-1, 6-3) topped Washington (7-7-4, 3-2-4) 1-0 in a Pac-12 Conference match in Seattle.

Hockey

Taylor Ross, a fourth-round selection by the Spokane Chiefs in May’s draft, scored twice for Team Saskatchewan in its 5-4 loss to Team British Columbia in a Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup opener in Calgary, Alberta.
