Pullman, Clarkston advance

Maddi Cillay and Anne Mari Petrino scored early in the second half, and the Pullman girls soccer team kept its season alive with a 2-1 win over Cheney in a District 7 2A elimination match Thursday in Pullman.

After a scoreless first half, Cillay took a pass from Diana DeWald in the 54th minute and scored to put the Greyhounds ahead 1-0. Pullman took a 2-0 lead when Petrino scored six minutes later.

Cheney’s Abby Hammermeister scored late in the match, but the Blackhawks (5-11) couldn’t add another.

Pullman (8-6) will play in another elimination match Tuesday at West Valley (14-2). That winner will earn a berth to the state tournament.

Clarkston 2, Colville 0: Katelyn Sly and Addison Folson scored first-half goals and the Bantams (12-4) held on in the second half to eliminate the visiting Indians (4-12) in a District 7 2A match.

Sly scored off a penalty kick in the 22nd minute and Folson made it 2-0 with a 40th-minute goal.

Clarkston will face East Valley (10-3) on Tuesday for a state berth.

Lakeside (WA) 4, Riverside 0: Callie Best and Kelsey Jones each had a goal and an assist as the Eagles (14-1) blanked the Rams (6-6) in a District 7 1A match in Nine Mile Falls.

Ashley Cook-Cox and Jocelyn Cook-Cox also scored goals for Lakeside, which will play Newport on Tuesday.

Riverside will play Freeman on Tuesday

Newport 4, Freeman 2: Holly Malsbury scored in each half to guide the Grizzlies past the visiting Scotties in a District 7 1A match.

Addy Cauchy and Emily Lewis also scored for Newport.

Sierra McGarity and Casey Christiansen scored Freeman’s goals, both coming in the second half.
