CV, U-Hi win awards in marching band battle

The Central Valley and University high school marching bands competed in the Puget Sound Festival of Bands Oct. 26 in Everett.

Central Valley, which competed in the Open Division, took home best visual, best percussion, best music and best general effect awards. It also came in first place.

University High School placed third in the AAA Division and tied for the best visual award.

This Week in High School Sports

The National Association of Broadcasters has awarded “This Week in High School Sports,” with an Outstanding Support Award and Public Education Partnership Award, in the annual Small Market Television Exchange in Phoenix.

“This Week in High School Sports,” airs Thursdays at 10:35 p.m. on KAYU-Fox 28. It is the only known high school television sports program in the country that is written, filmed, edited, produced and anchored by high school students. The students involved attend Central Valley, Deer Park and University high schools.

The program is a collaboration between the schools and KAYU.
