Obituary: Canedo, Agnes Coppcock Theilen
CANEDO, Agnes (Coppock) Theilen July 24, 1943 - October 14, 2013 Agnes Coppock Theilen Canedo died October 14, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer in Ellensburg, Washington where she lived for nearly 40 years. Agnes was born to Kenneth and Flora Coppock in Bonners Ferry, Idaho on July 24, 1943. She grew up and went to school in Spokane graduating from Rogers High School in 1961. She married Robert Theilen in Spokane in 1963. They had two children Kelly Lynn Theilen and Robert James Theilen Jr. and made their home in Pasco. In 1974 they divorced and Agnes moved to Ellensburg to attend Central Washington University. There she met and married Anthony Canedo in 1978. Agnes earned several degrees from CWU and served as a CWU administrator for 33 years. Honored earlier this year as a Distinguished Civil Servant by the University, Agnes became CWU’s director of Student Financial Services in 1996, gained a reputation as a strong advocate for student success. She took pride in making the financial aid process less strenuous by looking for ways to improve the dissemination of information, and implementing efficiencies in the application process. Agnes began her career at CWU in 1980 as a library technician. In 1986, she joined Extended University Programs as the administrative service manager. In 1992, she became the executive assistant to the University President. Agnes is mourned and missed by her children and her grandchildren, her first husband, her extended family and her many friends. Her parents and her husband Anthony Canedo preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, her three grandchildren, Skyler James Thielen, Cheyenne Christa Thielen and Magdalena Lockling all of Ellensburg, her sister Virginia Berg (Michael) of Spokane, and her brothers Thomas Coppock (Jan) of Gresham, and Joseph Coppock of Shoreline, and numerous nephews and nieces. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Ellensburg.
