Housing complex targets 417 units

Harlan Douglass is developing the first phase of Stonehorse at Wandermere, a 108-acre north Spokane housing complex with eventual plans for 417 apartment units.

The first phase, with 35 duplexes (70 units), is expected to be finished by spring. First-phase construction will total slightly more than $11 million, according to county permits.

The development is north of Farwell Avenue and east of Perry Street, to northeast of the Wandermere Mall.

Phase two starts next summer and includes plans for another 156 units.

Harlan Douglass Inc. is developing and managing the buildings. Harley Douglass is the general contractor.

Project begins on South Hill

A partnership headed by Spokane developer Steve Schmautz is building a commercial-retail building at the southwest corner of Southeast Boulevard and 29th Avenue, on Spokane’s South Hill.

The building will have 12,300 square feet for retail or office space on two levels, with parking stalls in a lower level.

Construction began recently following the demolition of an office building last leased to a dentist and a physician’s office.

A city permit lists the project as costing roughly $2 million. The building will be ready by next summer.

The general contractor is Divcon, Inc. Wolfe Architectural is the building’s designer.

Vic Overholser and Michael Mathis of SDS Realty Inc., of Spokane, are the leasing brokers.

School employees group relocates

Public School Employees of Washington, the group that represents classified school workers, has moved its Spokane office to 1825 N. Hutchinson Road, in Spokane Valley. The association’s previous Valley location was 9207 E. Mission Ave.

The office has three full-time staff workers.

Marc Mowrer, of Kiemle & Hagood Co., was the lease broker.
