Big sky roundup: Grizzlies survive sting from Hornets
Jordan Johnson connected with Ellis Henderson for a 25-yard touchdown in overtime to lead the Montana Grizzlies (7-2, 4-2 Big Sky) over the Sacramento State Hornets 51-48 on Saturday in Sacramento, Calif.
Johnson passed for 381 yards and two TDs to pace Montana, while Jordan Canada rushed for 78 yards and four TDs on 17 carries. Canada’s 1-yard plunge with 3:38 left in the game seemed to set the Griz up for the win.
Sac State tied it with a 77-yard drive, ending in Garrett Safron’s 5-yard TD toss to Cole Hikutini with 23 seconds left.
Safron ended the day 41 of 58 for 412 yards and 4 TDs, and ran for 93 yards and 2 scores.
Montana State 35, Northern Colorado 28: Cody Kirk rushed for 180 yards and two TDs and the Bobcats (7-2, 5-0) held off the Bears (1-8, 0-5) in Greeley, Colo.
Trailing 27-14 in the fourth quarter, Seth Lobato threw a TD pass to Austin Wilbers and ran for another as the Bears took a 28-27 lead.
Portland State 45, Weber State 24: DJ Adams ran for 152 yards and two TDs to push the Vikings (5-4, 2-3) to a victory over the Wildcats (1-8, 0-5) in Portland, Ore.
The Vikings got help on the ground from Nate Tago, who also ran for two TDs.
Cal Poly 34, UC Davis 16: Quarterback Chris Brown rushed for 195 yards and three TDs – two in the fourth quarter – and the Mustangs (4-5, 3-2) pulled away in the second half to defeat the Aggies (3-7, 3-3) in Davis, Calif.
Northern Arizona 48, North Dakota 27: Zach Bauman rushed for 162 yards and a TD to guide the Lumberjacks (7-2, 5-1) to a win over North Dakota (2-7, 1-5) in Flagstaff, Ariz.
