Cannon is refreshing
I watched the Spokane City Council debates, and Michael Cannon impressed me. Most of the time, I feel like politicians try very hard to never take positions or answer direct questions. I’ve come to expect that behavior as status quo from anyone running or in elected office.
But that’s one of the things I found refreshing about Cannon. He seemed informed and very thoughtful and substantive in his answers about how he would approach some of the issues facing the city, from public safety to the proposed budget. He even outlined specific issues where he disagrees with the mayor, which I found brave, and again refreshing, given the mayor is one of his supporters.
That’s the kind of leadership we need in City Hall: someone who is informed and willing to answer questions thoughtfully and directly. I like knowing I am going to vote for a person who will give me a straight answer – sadly, something very elusive in politics today.
