Voters to decide on council races, food labeling

Snow isn’t the only thing in the air Tuesday. Voters are deciding on the direction of Spokane City Council and whether foods containing genetically engineered crops should be labeled. There’s still time to vote. Ballot boxes across the county are open until 8 p.m. The council race between John Ahern and incumbent Jon Snyder offers a stark choice, as does the race between Michael Cannon and Candace Mumm. The negative ads have now run their course in these races and voters will decide if they want a council that continues to largely follow the lead of Mayor David Condon, or one that more closely aligns with Council President Ben Stuckart. The other race to watch is Initiative 522. Out of state money has poured into the state to influence whether voters want many of the foods they commonly buy at the grocery to offer disclosure if they contain genetically modified ingredients. Over in Idaho, Kootenai County voters have until 8 tonight to go to the polls to decide city council and mayoral races in Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls, along with other issues.
