Obituary: Dallen, Richard J. “Dick”

DALLEN, Richard J. Richard “Dick” J. Dallen, of Spokane Valley, WA went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2013 at age 84.

Richard was born August 12, 1929 in Anthon, Iowa.

His parents Fred and Martha Dallen had eleven children.

In 1950 Richard was drafted into the U.S. Army.

He served the 2nd Inf.

Div., 9th Inf.

Co. B and saw extensive combat being severely wounded during the battle of Bloody Ridge.

After undergoing multiple surgeries and rehabilitation Richard was medically retired from the U.S. Army.

Despite his severe disability Richard worked 30 years as a heavy equipment operator.

Richard loved wildlife, fishing and woodworking.

He was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW, American Legion, NRA, and life member of Disabled American Veterans.

Richard was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

Richard’s surviving sister Margie and brother-in-law Lawrence express their gratitude to Spokane Veterans Home staff for the exceptional care Richard received.

A graveside service will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 15384 N. Church Rd., Rathdrum, Idaho at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2013.
